Pencil Spaces

Child Mode provides a simplified Space interface for participants by limiting access to certain tools and features. This keeps the workspace minimalistic for students, giving them access to the essential tools they need to participate, while hosts continue to have access to all available tools and controls.

Note: Child Mode is currently available on our current Pro, Expert, Master, and Scale plans. See a simplified toolbar with tools for drawing, erasing, moving, and undoing or redoing actions

Have limited video call controls, with access to their microphone and camera

You can turn Child Mode on or off from the settings for an individual Space.

1. Open the Space you want to update.
2. Click Manage People.
 
 
 
3. Select Settings.
 
 
 
4. Toggle Child Mode on or off.
 
 
 
5. Click Update.

The settings will be applied for all students in the Space!

How do I set Child Mode as the default for new Spaces?

Institution Admins can choose whether Child Mode is automatically enabled or disabled by default whenever a new Space is created.

From your dashboard, go to Settings.

Under the Institution section, select Permissions.

Navigate to the Inside Spaces panel, and find Child Mode.

From here you can choose your preferred default:

- Default On: Child Mode will be enabled automatically for new Spaces.
- Default Off: Child Mode will be disabled automatically for new Spaces.

Once selected, click Update in the bottom-right corner.

Note: This setting only determines the default for new Spaces. Hosts can still turn Child Mode on or off for an individual Space at any time inside the Space’s settings.
