What is a Space?

A Space is your online classroom in Pencil Spaces.

Each space includes:

  • An infinite whiteboard

  • Built-in video conferencing

  • Collaborative tools for teaching, meetings, and group work

You can use Spaces for live classes, one-on-one tutoring, team collaboration, or lesson preparation.

Create a Blank Space

Once you’ve logged in, you can start fresh with a blank Space:

  1. Click the + Create Space button at the top-right corner of your screen

  2. Alternatively, select Create Space from the top section of your homepage.

  3. Once you’ve created your Space, you’ll automatically be redirected to it.

Create a Space from Templates

You can also create a Space using:

  • Pencil Spaces’ built-in templates

  • Custom templates provided by your institution

Templates are useful for quickly setting up lessons, activities, or recurring classroom layouts.

Don’t See The “Create Space” Option?

The ability to create Spaces depends on your account role and institution permissions. For example, students may not have permission to create a Space.

If you don’t see the Create Space option on your screen:

  • Contact your institution administrator, or

  • Reach out to Pencil Spaces Support for help

If you’re not sure how to find support, see: How to access 24/7 live support.
