💡Performance Tip

Virtual Background uses extra system resources. Disable it if you experience slow performance.

How to enable

In Pencil Spaces, you can add a virtual background to your video call to reduce distractions or create a more polished look during sessions.

  1. Click the More (⋯) menu:

    • In Whiteboard layout, it’s located at the far right of the video call panel.

    • In Gallery layout, it appears next to the Settings icon.

  2. Click Virtual Background

  3. Choose a background from the available options.

  4. To use your own image, scroll down and click Import, then select a file from your device.

Which browsers / devices support Virtual Background?

Supported Browsers

You can use Virtual Background in Pencil Spaces with the following browsers:

  • Google Chrome

  • Microsoft Edge

If you’re using another browser, the feature will be disabled and you’ll be prompted to switch.

Supported Device

Virtual Background is currently supported on desktop computers or laptops only.

It is not available on iPads, tablets, or mobile devices.

For the best experience, use a computer with a dedicated GPU or graphics card to ensure smooth performance.

How Do I Check That WebGL Is Enabled?

Virtual Background relies on WebGL for graphics processing. To check if it’s enabled and supported on your device:

  1. Look for the line that says “Major Performance Caveat.”

  2. Make sure it says “No.”
