Pencil Spaces allows you to record your calls in two ways:

  1. Cloud recording:

    1. The call is automatically recorded in the cloud so you do not need to save anything to your device at the end of the call.

    2. You can optionally choose to record the whiteboard.

  2. Local recording:

    1. You record the call locally on your device by sharing your screen.

    2. You have the option to save the recording to your device at the end of the call, or upload it to Pencil Files.

In both cases, only hosts can record the whiteboard.

Cloud Recording

Recording on cloud is especially helpful because it comes with packed with additional features like:

  1. The ability to hide student video.

  2. Shareable links for students or other hosts

  3. Automatic transcription and, if enabled in your plan, summaries which can be directly emailed to participants as session notes

Local Recording

Note: Local recording may slow down lower quality devices and may cause delays at the end of the session while the recording is exported. If local recordings are lost, we will not be able to recover them from your device.

  • To start recording on your device, click on the 3-dot menu below your video feed

  • From the menu, click on Record

  • Here, choose Record on your device

  • Here you could choose to share your Entire Screen, Window, or a single tab. Once chosen, click on Share.

  • Once recording starts, you will see the following indicators on your screen suggesting that recording has started.

  • To stop recording, either click on the Stop sharing button or, click on the 3-dot menu and choose Stop Recording

  • Here you can choose to Pause Recording or Stop Recording completely.

  • Once the recording stops, a pop-up will appear on your screen. Here, you can choose to save it on your computer, or you can choose to save it on both Pencil Files and your computer for easy access. Once done, click on Save.

  • Your file will be successfully saved to your Computer / Pencil Files.
