How to enable screen-sharing permissions in MacOS?

Written by Ville

If you see an error such as “Screen sharing denied by OS” when trying to share your screen in Pencil Spaces, your operating system or organization may be blocking screen-sharing access.

Follow the instructions below for your device.

Google Chrome and Other Browsers

  1. Open System Settings on your Mac. Go to Privacy & Security.

  2. Select Screen & System Audio Recording.

  3. Find your browser (for example, Chrome) and toggle it on.

  4. When prompted, click Quit & Reopen to apply the changes.

  5. Return to Pencil Spaces and try sharing your screen again.

Safari

Safari manages screen-sharing permissions through its own settings.

  1. Open Safari.

  2. Click Safari in the menu bar and select Settings.

  3. Go to Websites.

  4. Select Screen Sharing from the sidebar.

  5. Find Pencil Spaces in the website list and allow screen sharing.

  6. Return to Pencil Spaces and try again.

School- or Organization-Managed Devices

If you're using a device managed by your school or organization, its security policies or device management software may restrict screen-sharing permissions.

Please contact your school's IT administrator or organization's support team and ask them to enable screen-sharing access for your browser or Pencil Spaces.

Still Having Issues?

If you've followed the steps above and still can't share your screen, contact Pencil Spaces Support for assistance.
