How do I integrate with Teachworks?

Teachworks is a tutoring management platform that’s designed to help tutoring businesses easily manage their scheduling, students, tutors, and other day-to-day operations.

By connecting your Teachworks and Pencil Spaces accounts, you can bring your scheduling workflow and online classroom together, making it easier to organize your online lessons in one place.

Before you begin:

To set up the integration, you’ll need:

  • A Teachworks account

  • A Pencil Spaces account

  • Your Pencil Spaces API key

You’ll also need access to the relevant account and integration settings in both platforms. If you don’t have accounts for one or both platforms yet, follow the steps and links listed below.

💡 Pro Tip: If you already have both a Pencil Spaces and Teachworks account, you can skip straight to Step 3 and connect them using your API key.

Step 1: Create a Teachworks account

If you’re new to Teachworks, start by signing up for a Teachworks account.

Once you’ve set your Teachworks account up, you can move on to preparing your Pencil Spaces account.

Step 2: Create a Pencil Spaces account

If you don’t already have a Pencil Spaces account, sign up here to get started. A free trial is available.

Step 3: Copy your Pencil Spaces API key

Once you have both your Teachworks and Pencil Spaces accounts ready, you’ll need to generate a unique API key in Pencil Spaces. This key allows Teachworks to connect securely to your Pencil Spaces account.

Your API key is generated from your Pencil Spaces account settings. You’ll need to copy it before returning to Teachworks, as you’ll enter it there to establish the connection. To do so:

  1. Log in to your Pencil Spaces account, then click Settings.

  2. In Settings, navigate to the API & Integrations panel.

  3. Click Generate API Key.

  4. Once your API key has been generated, copy it and store it somewhere securely.

Once you've copied your API key, you're ready to connect Pencil Spaces to Teachworks.

Important: For security reasons, your API key will not be available to view again after you refresh the page. Before you leave, be sure to copy it down and save it somewhere you can find it again if needed. For more information, read our API guide.

Step 4: Enable the Pencil Spaces integration in Teachworks

Now that you have your Pencil Spaces API key stored, you can enter it in Teachworks to connect the two platforms.

  1. Log in to your Teachworks account, and then open the Account panel.

  2. Navigate to Integrations & Add-ons.

  3. Find Pencil Spaces in the list of available integrations and click Enable.

  4. Paste the Pencil Spaces API key you copied earlier into the required field.

  5. Click Save & Connect.

Once the connection is successful, your Pencil Spaces integration is ready to use in Teachworks! You can now use the integration to connect your Teachworks scheduling workflow with Pencil Spaces and your online lessons.
