Participant Permissions

What’s the difference?

Participant controls and permissions are there to help you manage your experience on Pencil Spaces. You can now enable and disable specific controls for all participants in your Spaces.

The participant controls give you complete command over the audio and visual capabilities of the other participants in your Space.

To start using the participant controls, navigate to your Space, and the participant controls can be found in the top right-hand corner of the Space.

This will automatically direct you to the participant control panel, where you can control participants’ audio and video in the Space, requesting for them to unmute and turn on their cameras, or automatically switching them off so they can fade to the background of the meeting.

Alongside the participant controls, you also have permissions that give you an extra degree of control over the participants in your Space.

The participant permissions are a series of controls that allow you to toggle the following features:

To change the participant permissions, navigate to the same menu as you did to adjust the participant controls, and select “Permissions” from the header.

From there, toggle the permissions as you see fit by clicking on the checked boxes to take away the permissions, and clicking on an unchecked box to restore them.

Even though they might seem similar, the difference is that permission adjustments are permanent until the host changes them. With controls, even if you turn off someone’s camera, they have the ability to turn it back on. However, when you remove the permission to turn on cameras, participants won't be able to turn on their cameras at all.
