How to add, rename, and search for boards

Learn how to add, rename, and search for boards to better organize your classroom and collaboration.

What is a Board?

In Pencil Spaces, a Space is your online classroom with an infinite whiteboard and video conferencing. Inside a Space, you can create multiple boards. Each board is its own infinite canvas, making it easy to organize lessons, group activities, or topics.

Adding Boards

Boards are created automatically when you upload a PDF or open questions from the course library. You can also add a board manually:

  1. Click the Boards button on the left side of your Space.

  2. In the dropdown menu, click the blue + New button.

  3. You can also choose from the following options:

    • Shared board – A board visible to everyone in the Space.

    1. Private board – A board visible only to hosts and selected participants.

    2. Private board per participant – Creates a separate private board for each participant, organized in a folder.

    3. Create new folder – Create a folder to better organize your boards.

  4. Your new board will appear at the bottom of the list, ready to use.


Renaming Boards

You can rename a board in three ways:

Option 1: From the board list

  1. Open Boards list.

  2. Hover over a board name and click the three dots.

  3. Select Rename, type your new name, then press Enter.

Option 2: Top bar rename

  1. Click the board name at middle, top bar

  2. Select Rename board, type your new name, then press Enter.

Option 3: Inline rename

  1. Hover over a board name until it’s outlined in blue.

  2. Click the name, type your new name, then press Enter.


Searching Boards

If you have many boards, use the search bar to quickly find one by name:

  1. Click View boards.

  2. Use the search bar at the top of the list.

  3. Type the board name and select it from the results.
