In some cases, you may need to join multiple institutions using the same email address. Using the same email addresses means account security information and notifications for activity in multiple institutions will be sent to the same email address.
This might be useful if you're tutoring for several tutoring companies in parallel, or if your organization serves several different schools or school districts.
If you have an email account from a non-Google provider
We recommend you either:
Use multiple personal email addresses for each institution, or
You create a new Google-managed account (steps outlined here), and use the steps below to access multiple institutions with the same account
Our team are working on a solution to allow users to access multiple institutions with the same email address. Please follow our social media channels to stay up-to-date with our upcoming product releases.
If you have a Google-managed email account
This only applies to GMail accounts, or accounts managed by Google Workspace or Google Workspace for Education
You can check if your email account is managed by Google by visiting https://mail.google.com.
While Pencil Spaces currently does not support multi-institution accounts, there are workarounds if your email account is managed by Google. To do this:
Ask your Institution Admin to invite you to your first institution. Instead of using your standard email of form
{original_address}@{domain}.com, use{original_address}+{institution_name}@{domain}.com. Please remove any spaces or special characters from your institution to form{institution_name}
Example: To invite Imran to thePencil Spacesinstitution, instead of inviting[email protected], the Institution Admin should instead invite[email protected]
Once invited, please visit https://my.pencilapp.com/account and select Continue with Email. When prompted for your email address, use
{address}+{institution_name}@{domain}.com. If a password has not been set for your account, please follow the steps in Reset Your Password.
Password reset emails will be sent to your original address (e.g.,{original_address}@{domain}.com)
Verify you are able to sign-into Pencil Spaces with your first account. Please only sign-in via Email and Password or Magic Link.
To join additional institutions using the same base email address, follow instructions (1) - (3) for each additional institution. You're now all set!
