In Pencil, you can create Multiple Choice or Open-Ended Questions within any course by navigating to the "Questions" tab in your course and clicking the "+ Create" Button.

All of the questions that you create in Pencil are saved automatically as drafts, so you never have to worry about losing your work. You also have the ability to attach any photos, videos, PDFs, Equations, or PhET Simulations to any part of your question.

You can see an in-depth video tutorial for both question types below:

How to Create a Multiple Choice Question

It's important to Note that the although the process hasn't changed, the appearance of Pencil Spaces has changed since the filming of this video.

Multiple choice questions in Pencil can be answered by students in Practice Mode which automatically saves and grades each question that your students have practiced.

When creating a multiple-choice question, you have the ability to add as many choices as you'd like, along with any hints or explanations.

How to Create an Open-Ended Question

It's important to Note that the although the process hasn't changed, the appearance of Pencil Spaces has changed since the filming of this video.

Open-ended questions in Pencil can be added to worksheets (Sets) or uploaded to a Pencil Space where students can show their work on either the whiteboard, in Pencil's discussion sections, or directly on a printed page.

When creating an open-ended question, you have the ability to add a sample answer, an unlimited number of sub-questions, a response box with an assigned number of points, and any hints or explanations.
